Plan ahead
If you’re shipping to a location that experiences extreme winter weather—like a ski resort—consider shipping your items a few days before arrival. This way, if there’s a weather delay, your items will still arrive in time. Many hotels and resorts are happy to hold your shipment until you arrive, but we always recommend calling ahead to confirm.
Choose the correct category
When sending skis or snowboards, selecting the correct shipping category helps ensure a smooth experience. You can use our category calculator on the LugLess site to make it easy. Keep in mind that boot bags usually ship separately, often under the Carry-On category.
Item | Max Weight | Size |
---|---|---|
Snowboard | 35lbs | Size matters |
Large Snowboard | 67lbs | Size matters |
Skis | 30lbs | Size matters |
Large Skis | 65lbs+ | Size matters |

Pack for success
Packing properly is key to ensuring that your winter gear arrives safely. Follow these tips for shipping your skis, snowboard, or other gear:
- Use a sturdy, soft- or hard-sided travel case or even a box.
- Pad your bindings for added protection.
- Lock or zip-tie your case shut to secure it during transit.
- Consider taping down or removing any handles or straps to prevent snagging.
- Remember to pack helmets, goggles, and ski boots separately to keep them protected during shipping.

Handling weather delays
Winter storms can ground planes and make roads unsafe, which may impact your shipment. While LugLess and our carriers do everything possible to prevent delays, severe weather is sometimes unavoidable. Planning for extra transit time will increase the likelihood of an on-time delivery.
If your shipment is delayed, contact the carrier directly for updates—they’ll have the latest information. Here are a few key questions to ask:
- When is the rescheduled delivery date, and what time will it arrive?
- Can my luggage be held at a Customer Center for pickup?
- Can you expedite my shipment for an earlier delivery?
Our carriers’ networks span the country, meaning the weather in one region can impact shipments nationwide. Even if you’re shipping from sunny southern California to the coast of Florida, a snowstorm in Colorado might affect the trailer route for your bags.
By planning ahead, packing carefully, and staying informed on weather conditions, you’ll be set for a smooth shipping experience this winter. Safe travels, and happy skiing!
